3D Reflective Journal #1 - Maya Upskilling + Plan

3D Reflective Journal #1

This week's post was optional; thus it displays work I have been doing relevant to the assignment but does not directly address the assignment itself. Essentially documenting my preparation.

In the workshop this week we did a 'Chindogu' (Japanese useless/comic inventions) 3D speed modelling session to practice Maya. I found this helpful as I practiced/learned the process for gradually introducing more LOD (level of detail) as I defined the shapes of the model before finally applying smoothing and ending up with a high subdivision shoe model. The umbrella was just basic hard-surface stuff.

I claimed educational Maya license to work through more tutorial material at home, and worked on following along the Joan Of Arc modelling tutorial, which was some more good mechanical practice, and to begin to see how one might approach making a humanoid 3d model.

This is the character + vehicle our group has been assigned:

I have made contact with 2/3 of the other group members so far, and we will get to assigning modelling roles shortly. I will discuss impressions and thoughts about the designs in the following blog post.
